Our Services
Spiritual Care at CHRISTUS Spohn
The mission of the Spiritual Care Department is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. This ministry is to listen to the patient and his/her family help the patient and family cope with their hospitalization. We also offer support during a crisis; comfort, prayer, education, sacramental ministry, listening and conversing, reading scripture, emotional support, and help with spiritual and ethical issues, meditate with you and help you reflect on your life's journey.
Members of the Spiritual Care provide ministry to patients and their families of all ages in every nursing unit or treatment area within all of the Spohn facilites. The specific ministry offered is dependent on the needs of the patient, family member, or staff person. The Spiritual Care staff functions as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide for the needs of the patient: body, mind and spirit. The Spiritual Care staff receives referrals from members of other disciplines such as physicians, nurses, and social workers to minister to individual patients, their families, or staff. They also make referrals to other disciplines, or to other clergy within the community when appropriate.
Our spiritually sensitive and caring staff is comprised of chaplains from various denominations that include: Roman Catholic priest chaplains, Roman Catholic Religious, ordained and lay persons Protestant faith groups, and various volunteer lay Eucharistic ministers and Spiritual Care volunteers. Spiritual Care staff is certified as chaplains according to standards of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC).
A chaplain is on call and can be reached by calling the operator of the hospital.
