Emergency and Trauma Services
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System provides emergency services at each of its six hospitals. CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi–Memorial is the region's only Level II Trauma Center and offers 24-hour coverage of all medical emergencies by board-certified emergency medicine physicians. The department has two major trauma suites, 20 treatment rooms and a cast room. In keeping with the department's role as the medical control center for South Texas, it has an advanced communications system with cellular telephone hookups and two-way radio contact between emergency physicians and prehospital personnel.
CHRISTUS Spohn Halo Flight air ambulance provides quality rapid transportation to all CHRISTUS Spohn hospitals. The other five hospital in the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System are Level IV Trauma Centers offering resuscitation, stabilization and arrangements for appropriate transfer of major and severe trauma patients to a higher level trauma facility when medically necessary.
It also provides ongoing educational opportunities in trauma-related topics for health care professionals and the public, and implements targeted injury prevention programs. Level IV designation requirements are stringent. ER physicians must be on call and promptly available within 30 minutes of request. Facilities must be equipped with proper technology, provide around the clock radiology and clinical laboratory services and house a two-way communication system.
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice and CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi–South provide a wide range of general emergency services. All CHRISTUS Spohn Health System emergency services provide 24-hour service.
